Changes to Programs of Events for the ACT Championships Series

23 December 2001

The Programs of Events for the ACT Development Championships, ACT Age Championships and ACT Open Championships have been finalised.  Please note that there have been some changes to the programs so ensure that you have the correct information when filling out your entries. Please note that the age to be used for the duration of the age series is as of 8 February.

Congratulations and good luck to TVSC's team for the upcoming NSW State Age & Open Championships to be held from 5-18 January.  You'll find the names of our qualifiers and their events here.  Also, click here to see the names of our NSW Country qualifiers and their events.  Good luck to all Viking competitors and let's hope you enjoy the experience!

 

Great Results at the Last Meet for 2001
16 December 2001

The Canberra Christmas Classic, held at the AIS on 14-16 December, produced some great results for the Vikings swimmers. Last minute State times were achieved by Nick Duncan, Stephanie Banham, Elise Dale, Alannah Grimm, Ryan Leonard, Trent Pattenden and Martin Pollock and Ryan, Trent and Jarred Ballard achieved new Country Times.  Lots of Gold medals were also won.  Adam Bingham and Haydn Marsh both won 6 each, Meagan Ramsay won all of her four 9 yr old events, Ryan Leonard won 2 and Martin Pollock and Nick Duncan one each.  Way to go Vikings!

 

Our Vikings Excel at the Matt Dunn Pentathlon
2 December 2001

In what was very rushed swimming conditions, the Vikings swimmers had great success at the Matt Dunn Pentathlon.  The events resembled training "walk-backs" but the swimmers showed what great fitness they had and produced some great results.  Brendan Taylor managed to produced five out of five huge PBs in an impressive improvement.  Nick Duncan and Haydn Marsh won flash AIS jumpers for their overall winning performances, with Adam Bingham runner up and Monique Van Balen and Meagan Ramsay both placing third in their age groups. Great swimming Vikings!

The Vikings team performed well at the recent Telopea Federation Swim Meet, held at the AIS on 9-12 November.  Special congratulations should be given to 10-year old Kelsey Boundy who achieved her very first Country time in 100m Breaststroke.  Well done Kelse!  Monique Van Balen had a great meet as well, swimming 100 percent PBs and three new State times.  Monique, Adam Bingham (4), Haydn Marsh (3), Kathleen Rowell and Angela Lewis all won Gold medals.  Also on a "gold-digging" strike were Alana Forster and Elise Dale who, for the second year running, took out the Knockout Handicap Relay to top off another successful Vikings meet.  The results for Boys, Girls and TVSC swimmers can be found at our Results page. Results for Boys, Girls and TVSC Swimmers from the Ginninderra Development Meet held on 4 November added to our Results page.  Our swimmers had brilliant results with a 73 percent PB rate.  Well done Vikings!  (Added 7 November 2001)

October 2001

Updated Long Course PBs for Boys and Girls added to our Competitor Info. page. (30 October 2001)

Results for Boys, Girls and TVSC Swimmers from the Narooma 2-Day Meet held on 27-28 October added to our Meet Results page.  The Vikings swimmers broke 24 Meet Records between them as well as  winning 52 Gold and oodles of Silver and Bronze medals.  Adam Bingham, Angela Lewis, Haydn Marsh, Meagan Ramsay and David Pollock all won 7 Gold medals each, with Lachlan Grimm 5, Michaela Leonard 4, Ryan Leonard and Tony Meli 3 each, Sarah Reed and Ashleigh Streatfield 2, and Nick Duncan, Rebecca Lewis and Monique Van Balen 1 each.  A great effort Vikings!  Lots of fun was had by all too with the trivia and games organised on Saturday night - pity about Daylight Savings! Results for Boys, Girls and TVSC Swimmers from the Burley Griffin October Meet on 20-21 October 2001 added to our Meet Results page.  Both Sarah Martine and Matthew Pollock scored a 100 percent PB rate.  Sarah scored almost 35 seconds worth of PBs in her 5 events, along the way to recording three new Country and two new State qualifying times.  Matt also added two new State times as did brothers Martin and David. Adam Bingham swam a great 200m Free to achieve another National Qualifying time. Both Meagan Ramsay and Kathleen Rowell picked up nice trophies and substantial cash bonuses for taking out their respective age championships at the meet.  A great meet Vikings!  (Added 21 October 2001)

September 2001

TVSC's swimmers attending the Australian Secondary Schools Championships in Perth from 17-20 September acquitted themselves very well.  Results for Boys, Girls, the ACT Team and TVSC Swimmers have been added to our Meet Results page.  Lots of PBs were swum by the Vikings members of the team as well as medals won by Kathleen Rowell and Adam Bingham.  Kathleen won two Bronze medals (15-16 yrs 50 & 100 Breast) and and Adam won a Silver in 13 yrs 100 Free and a Bronze in 12-14 yrs 200 Free.  Nice to see former Viking Lisa Normandeau (now swimming with Southport club) doing well at the Championships for Queensland, winning Gold in 15-16 yrs 100 & 200 Breaststroke.  (Added 22 September 2001)

Congratulations to TVSC's own State Champion, Haydn Marsh.  Haydn won the 11yrs 50m Butterfly at the recent NSW State Championships as well as gaining finalist ribbons in 100 Fly, 50 Back and 200 IM.  The TVSC team, somewhat depleted due to the absence of 9 senior swimmers in Perth, did extremely well at the Championships.  Other finalists included Sarah Reed (50 Breast), David Pollock (100 Back and Breast) and Adam Bingham (50 and 100 Free and 50 Fly).  (Added 22 September 2001)

Congratulations and good luck to the 24 Vikings swimmers who have qualified for the NSW State Age SC Championships to be held on 15-16 September at the Sydney Aquatic Centre.  Check out our Super Star Vikings here and the Program of Events here.  Many of the Vikings swimmers have qualified for the maximum events possible, so will be very busy in Sydney.  This representation caps off a magnificent season for the Vikings swimmers.  Well done to all!  Good luck also on 17-20 September to the 10 Vikings travelling to Perth for the National Secondary Schools Swimming Championships to be held at Challenge Stadium.  Find the names of our swimmers here and the Program of Events here.  Have a great time in the west Vikings! August 2001

Results for Boys, Girls and TVSC Swimmers from the Capital Belconnen Sprint Meet held at the AIS on 26 August added to our Meet Results page.  Check out the details at our Meet Reports page.  100 percent PB rates were swum by Alannah Grimm, Angela Kerlin, Tessa Lane, Club Captain Kathleen Rowell and "Pocket Rocket" Ashleigh Streatfield.  Meagan Ramsay also had a great day, swimming 6/7 PBs. The biggest cheer of the day came for Michael Hush who swam a great PB in his 50 Free to score a new State time.  Well done Vikings! (Added 26 August 2001)

Results for Boys, Girls and TVSC Swimmers from the TVSC Development Meet on 19 August added to our Meet Results page.  Again, the Vikings swimmers swam over 70% PBs.  Well done all!  Special congratulations to Martin Pollock who achieved his first State Qualifying Time in 100m Breaststroke.  Meagan Ramsay added 3 new times to her tally and Ryan Leonard and Kate Bingham one each.  (Added 19 August 2001).

A whopping 70 percent PB rate was scored by the Vikings swimmers at the Woden Double Meet on 28-29 July. Results are now available for Boys, Girls and TVSC Swimmers at our Meet Results page. Congratulations to Ryan Leonard and Sarah Martine who scored their first State qualifying times at the meet.  Monique Van Balen, Meagan Ramsay, Daniel Pezet, Debbie Lewis and Sarah Reed also all added to their tally of State times.  Well done Vikings! Full Results from Tuggeranong Vikings' annual Metropolitan, Country and State Qualifying Meet held at the TLC on 26-27 May.  Congratulations and Well Done to Vikings swimmers Angela Lewis (5 Gold Medals,  4 Meet Records), Adam Bingham (7 Gold Medals, 1 Meet Record) and Haydn Marsh (7 Gold Medals, 1 Meet Record) and to the 81 other Vikings swimmers taking part.  There were lots of PBs (65%) and medals won by the Vikings, with several trifectas on the winner's dias.  Results for Boys, Girls and TVSC Swimmers.  (Added 27 May 2001)

18 March 2001

Nick Duncan (9 yrs) and Adam Bingham (13 yrs) both won the title of ACT Age Champion at the ACT Age Championships.  Several other TVSC swimmers won gold medals and lots of PBs were swum.  

12 March 2001

Congratulations to Craig Minshull (13 years 50 Backstroke - in a new ACT Resident's Record) and Sarah Reed (13 years 50 Breaststroke) who both won Gold Medals at the Restricted Age Sprint Meet on 11 March. Also to Haydn Marsh who placed 3rd in 11 yrs 50m Fly. Matt Pollock, David Pollock, Nick Duncan, Monique Van Balen and Adam Bingham also finalled at the meet. TVSC's results were the best from the ACT Clubs and all swimmers who took part should be congratulated. Well done Vikings!

26 February 2001

Congratulations to our 24 member Country team. Angela Lewis won a Bronze medal in her 100m Breaststroke event as well as finalist ribbons in 50 and 100 Free and Open 50 and 100 Breast. Others to final were Kathleen Rowell (50 and 100 Breast), Haydn Marsh (100 Fly), Sarah Reed (100 Breast), Adam Bingham (100 Fly and 100 Free), Craig Minshull (100 Back) and Alana Forster (100 Fly). New National qualifying times were swum by Sarah Reed (100 Breast) and Adam Bingham (100 and 200 Fly and 400 Free), bringing the total of our National qualifiers to five. There was also a huge PB rate swum by our swimmers. Well done to all who took part!

18 February 2001

Congratulations to the Vikings Swim Team, all eighty odd members, who took part in the ACT Relay Championships. They swam fantabulously, marched fantabulousy and cheered fantabulously. Our best ever results Vikings - you should all be very proud of yourselves!

11 February 2001

Congratulations to the 76-strong Vikings team who won the recent ACT Development Championships. There were huge numbers of PBs from our swimmers as everyone did their bit to win the point-score. Great team work Vikings!

28 January 2001

The Vikings swimmers blitzed the field at the recent Sri Chimnoy Lake Swim at Yarralumla Bay. Although for some it was their first swim in open water, the swimmers swam exceptionally well. 15 year olds Michael Hush and Angela Lewis were first out of the water in the 2.5 kilometre swim whilst 12 year old Adam Bingham and 14 year old Alana Forster were first in the 500m swim. 12 year old Debbie Lewis was first in the 12&U category. Other placegetters included Sarah Reed, Teresa Donnelly and Tegan Mason. Great swimming Vikings! All are looking forward to the 5K swim next year!

Congratulations to the TVSC State team - Overall, 10 swimmers attended, with five achieving finalist ribbons. 12 year old Adam Bingham had 8 finals, one silver and 2 bronze medals, 15 year old Angela Lewis achieved 3 finalist ribbons (50, 100 and 200 Free), 14 year old Kathleen Rowell won two finalist ribbons (100 and 200 Breast), and 13 year old Sarah Reed (100 Breast) and Craig Minshull (100 Back) also achieved finalist placings. Well done team and congratulations to coach Chris De Britt!

7 January 2001

Congratulations to Adam Bingham who won a silver (200m Freestyle) and 2 Bronze (100m Freestyle and 400m Freestyle) medals at the NSW State Age Championships (9-12 yrs), as well as 5 finalist ribbons. Adam also achieved his first National qualifying times in 100m and 200m Freestyle. All of our swimmers swam exceptionally well and all swam PBs. Sarah Lewis swam a great PB to achieve her first Country qualifying time (100m Backstroke). Well done Vikings! And good luck also to our seniors as they travel to Sydney for the 13-18 yrs section of the NSW Age Championships.

17 December 2000

It was a great end to the year for the Vikings at the recent Canberra Christmas Classic.  Gold Medals were shared all around with Adam Bingham leading the group with eight, hotly followed by Megan Ramsey (4), Daniel Pezet (3), Ryan Leonard (2), Haydn Marsh (2), Andrew Gallo, Sarah Read, Kathleen Rowell and Lachlan Grimm.  Craig Minshull scored a new National time in 200 Back, as did Angela Lewis in 200 Free, and new Country qualifying times were achieved by Nick Duncan (100 Back), Monique Van Balen (200 IM), Michael Brown (100 Back), Adam Bingham (200 Free) and Nicole Minshull (100 Breast).  As well, Kelsey Boundy, Ryan Leonard and Alistair Loutit all swam a great effort of 100 percent PBs.  Well done Vikings - see you all back, rested and fit, in 2001!

19 November 2000

Qualifying times galore were scored by the Vikings swimmers at the ACT Summer Meet as our ranks of representative swimmers grow rapidly.  Congratulations to Sarah Lewis and David Pollock  (both 9 yrs 100 Backstroke) who both achieved their first State times, Sophie Lane (14 yrs 100 Free) her first Country time, Michael Leach (State 15 years 200 Backstroke and 100 Fly), Monique Van Balen (Country time in 10 yrs 100 Free and 100 Back), Andrew Gallo (12 yrs Country 100 Free), Matthew Pollock (12 yrs 200 IM and 100 Back Country) and Alana Forster (14 yrs 100 Fly).  Looks like lots of Vikings will be travelling to Sydney over the next few months.  Way to go Vikings!

Great results were achieved by the Vikings at the Telopea Qualifying Meet.  Nick Duncan scored a new State time in his 100 Backstroke and Alana Forster swam two new Country qualifying times in her 200 IM and 100 Free.   Lots of medals were also won, the most successful swimmers being Adam Bingham (5 Gold), Kathleen Rowell (3 Gold and 2 Bronze), Angela Lewis (2 Gold, 2 Silver, 2 Bronze), Byron Dale (2 Gold, 2 Bronze) and Haydn Marsh (1 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze).  Other gold medallists were Michael Hush, Nathan Hawkes and Sarah Reed.  Lots of PBs were also recorded.  Those swimmers most to impress include Janelle Rowell, Nicole Minshull, Alana Forster, Debbie Lewis, Elise and Byron Dale, Andrew Gallo, Bradley Stokes and Nick Duncan.

45 Vikings swimmers journeyed to the beautiful South Coast town of Narooma recently for their Annual 2-Day Carnival. Lots of PBs were swum (especially by the junior swimmers) and oodles of medals won, as well as several Meet Records broken. Most successful were Adam Bingham (8 Gold Medals), Angela Lewis (5 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze), Daniel Pezet (5 Gold, 2 Bronze), Meagan Ramsay (5 Gold, 5 Silver), Nicole Martine (4 Gold at her first meet!), Kathleen Rowell (3 Gold, 3 Silver, 1 Bronze), Lachlan Grimm (3 Gold, 1 Silver), Nick Duncan (2 Gold, 3 Silver). Well done Vikings, and well done Parents on their support effort!
