Last Minute Qualifiers at Christmas Classic

15 December 2002

The Vikings' swimmers had a great meet at the Canberra Christmas Classic.  New State qualifying times were picked up by Sebastian Tazreiter (200 Free), Alannah Grimm (100 Breast), Colby Rook (200 and 400 Free) and Nick Duncan (100 Breast).  Tessa Lane (100 Free) and Matthew D'Arcy (100 Fly - at his first meet!) increased our number of Country Qualifiers to 34 with Niall Jacobsen (100 Breaststroke) adding to his tally.  Swimmers of the Meet would have to be Brendan Taylor for his mighty effort in swimming 8 from 8 PBs and Tara Hodgson who achieved 7 PBs from 7 swims.  Niall Jacobsen and Heather Roche were almost as clever, swimming all but one PB.  It was a great way to wrap up the year - Well done Vikings!!!  Results for Boys, Girls and TVSC Swimmers can be found on our Results page.

24 November 2002

12 year old Vikings' swimmer Haydn Marsh lopped almost another second off his own ACT Resident's Record for 100m Butterfly at the ACT Summer Meet on 23-24 November.  Haydn finished the meet with 3 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals.  Adam Bingham also had a successful meet, winning five gold and four silver medals from 9 swims.  Other Viking victors were Meagan Ramsay (3) and the Breaststroking Pattendens, Trent (2), Elle (1) and Ben (1).  James Quinton, Heather Roche and Ben and Justin Trabinger all swam 100 percent PB rates at the meet with many others almost achieving that feat.  Results for Boys, Girls and TVSC Swimmers can be found at our Results page.

Early Season Success

4 November 2002

Although the PB rate was not high, which was not surprising so early in the season, our Vikings swimmers had great success at the recent Telopea Summer Meet.  Special congratulations should go to two of our swimmers who achieved personal firsts at the meet.  Haydn Marsh achieved his first National Qualifying time in his 100 Fly swim and Niall Jacobsen swam his very first Country qualifying time in 100 Free.  Lots of medals were won with Haydn Marsh picking up 4 gold and a silver, Adam Bingham 5 gold, a silver and a bronze, David Pollock 3 gold and 2 silver, Meagan Ramsay 2 gold, 2 silver and a bronze and Angela Lewis and Elle and Trent Pattenden 1 gold each.  Results for Boys, Girls and TVSC Swimmers have been added to our Meet Results page.

Reminder - Entries Closing for Christmas Classic

13 November 2002

Entries for the Canberra Christmas Classic close this Friday, 15 November.  Could all members please note that entries will not be accepted after this date.  As this is one of Head Coach, Chris De Britt's, targeted meets for the season, we would like as many Vikings as possible to attend, so make sure you get those entries in on time.  This is the last chance for those swimmers trying to  qualify for NSW State and is a great opportunity for our newer swimmers to have a swim at the AIS - good practice for those school carnivals coming up early next year.  Don't miss it!

Goulburn Qualifying Meet Cancelled

Another Glorious Weekend in Narooma!

27 October 2002

60 Vikings swimmers, along with assorted families and friends, travelled to the lovely little seaside town of Narooma this weekend for their Annual Two-Day Carnival.  As usual, the hospitality in this picturesque town was laid on and a great time was had by all.  The weekend kicked off with a barbeque on Friday night followed by a game of spotlight for the kids and a few "sociable drinks" for the parents.  On Saturday morning a welcome late start meant that most had time to get over the night before and had plenty of time to prepare for the long day ahead.  Nevertheless, our swimmers performed extremely well, considering the emphasis for this meet was on fun, not PBs.  A huge number of medals was won by our swimmers and meet records broken over the two days, not to mention the welcome cash incentives for the bigger kids.  Quite a few of our swimmers still managed to swim impressive PB rates  - these included Catherine Cymbalak, Stephanie Garlick, the three Leonards (Josh, Ryan and Michaela - who obviously benefited from their recent northern holiday!), James Quinton, Alex & Thomas Ramsay, Nicole Taylor and Justin Trabinger. On Saturday night the team and entourage (approximately 150 people!) enjoyed a great meal, testing the principles of the "All You Can Eat" captions at the Narooma Services Club, followed by a unique Trivia Night.  A late night, which included the commencement of Daylight Savings and the loss of an hour's sleep, did nothing to dampen our swimmers' spirits, although quite a few were yawning on the blocks as the weekend came to a close.  The verdict?  A very special weekend and let's start planning for next year!  To check out the results for Boys, Girls and TVSC Swimmers please access our Meet Results page.  Anyone with photos, please contact your Web Manager.

Welcome to the 2002/2003 Swimming Season

14 October 2002

Welcome back to our swimmers as they return from schools holidays, rested and ready for a great summer season.  Many of our swimmers have had great holidays in such exotic places as Bali, Darwin, Cairns, the Gold Coast, etc. whilst many have had good rests in good old Canberra.  Nevertheless, we're sure that all have had a good rest and are eager to get back to their friends at training.  As usual, we have a very full summer program ahead, culminating in Age Nationals in April.  To check out the revised ACT Calendar, including local and representative meets, please click here.  For more detailed information, including programs of events and qualifying times for Country, State and National meets, please check out our Competitor Info. page.
