A Great Finale for 2003

21 December 2003

The Vikings swimmers finished off the year with some great results at 2003's last local meet, the Canberra Christmas Classic.  There were a lot of tired swimmers and Mums and Dads glad to see the end of the meet, but the results were still very impressive for this time of year.  PBs were still around 60 percent with several swimmers scoring perfect rates - TAYLOR BRODIE, KATHERINE CYMBALAK, NICK D'ARCY, MICHAEL HUTCHESON, TESSA LANE, SIAN LEY, LIDIA NARDI, ALEX & THOMAS RAMSAY, BEN & JUSTIN TRABINGER and  PETER WALTON.  Special congratulations to BEN GRADY who swam a great PB to achieve a new National time in his 100 Free and MARTIN POLLOCK who also achieved a National time in his 200 Breaststroke.  JOSH WOOD produced a last minute State time in his 200 Fly swim to take our State qualifiers to 47 (see above).  Congratulations Josh!  Also picking up new State times were MATT D'ARCY (200 IM, 200 Free, 100 Back), NATASHA COSSETTO (200 Breast), TRENT PATTENDEN (50 Free & 100 Fly), SEB TAZREITER (100 Fly, 200 Back, 200 Free) and STEWART THOMPSON (200 Back).  There were plenty of Gold Medals as well with these being won by DYLAN APPELQVIST (5), NATASHA COSSETTO (3), HAYDN MARSH (3), ADAM BINGHAM (2), ELLE PATTENDEN (2), BEN TRABINGER (2), TIM CAMERON, REBECCA GILLESPIE, JESS HANCOCK, MICHAELA LEONARD, BEN PATTENDEN, MARTIN POLLOCK, MEAGAN RAMSAY and JOSH WOOD.  Well done everyone!  Results for Boys, Girls and TVSC Swimmers can be found at our Local Results page.

Another Fun Weekend in Narooma

9 December 2003

Sixty six Vikings swimmers and associated family members and coaching staff journeyed to the South Coast town of Narooma last weekend.  Although the weather was not entirely favourable, it did improve as the weekend went on any many managed to get in a trip to the beach.  Thank goodness for our new Vikings fleecy tops which came in very handy, especially during evening festivities.  The weekend was a howling success for all involved and a great time was had by all.  With early wake up calls thanks to the sea gulls, we were up and at the pool bright and early each morning.  This enthusiasm carried on during the day with a great deal of cheering and sportsmanship led by Chief Cheerleaders ASHLEIGH MANSELL and AMY BROWN (see picture).  There were still plenty of PBs, especially amongst our younger members - it seems that most of the older kids were too busy having a good time to overexert themselves in the pool!  NICK D'ARCY achieved his very first State qualifying time in 100m Breast and BEN TRABINGER picked up a new State time in his 200 IM.  Well done guys!  There were oodles of medals won by the Vikings swimmers as well as several meet records broken.  ADAM BINGHAM won all eight of his events and broke three meet records and  HAYDN MARSH won seven events and broke three meet records.  The list of others to win Gold Medals is very impressive -  NICK D'ARCY (5), BEN PATTENDEN (5), MICHAELA LEONARD (5), DAVID POLLOCK (5),  KRYSTEN MANSELL (3), BEN TRABINGER (3), LACHLAN TRABINGER (3), STEPHANIE COSSETTO (3), LACHLAN GRIMM (3), ELLE PATTENDEN (2), MEAGAN RAMSAY (3), MARTIN POLLOCK (2), JOSH WOOD (2), THOMAS RAMSAY (2), JUSTIN TRABINGER (2), LYNDSAY SAYWELL (2), NATASHA COSSETTO, BEN GRADY, MATT POLLOCK, JONNO ROUSSEAU and MICHAELLA TAZREITER.  Others to win medals included DEREK BAYLEY (and lots of PBs!), KATE BINGHAM, TIM CAMERON, MATT D'ARCY, NIC DUNCAN, KYLIE FITZSIMMONS, STEPH GARLICK, LAURA & PAT HUDSON, MICHAEL HUTCHESON, RYAN LEONARD, TRENT PATTENDEN, DANIEL & REBECCA PHILIPPA, BIANCA PITTS, MELANIE QUIGGIN, ALEX RAMSAY and  NATALIE SMITH.  There must have been a lot of heavy cars coming up the mountain on the way home!  We would like to pass on our thanks to the Narooma meet organising committee for the well run meet and the people of Narooma in general for their great friendly hospitality.  To see some snaps of our great weekend, please click here.

4 Viking Swimmers Bring Home Medals from NSW Distance Championships
