Goodbye
to
a
Great
Year
31
December
2003
With 2004 upon us, it is time to say goodbye to 2003 - a landmark year for TVSC. We've had many highlights and changes occur in 2003 so we thought it would be a good idea to add a summary for our members to reflect upon. You can find this summary here. 2004 is set to be another great year for the Vikings as we carry forward the successful results of 2003. We look forward to seeing all of our members striving for even better things in 2004. Go Vikings!!!

A Great Finale for 2003
21 December 2003
The Vikings swimmers finished off the year with some great results at 2003's last local meet, the Canberra Christmas Classic. There were a lot of tired swimmers and Mums and Dads glad to see the end of the meet, but the results were still very impressive for this time of year. PBs were still around 60 percent with several swimmers scoring perfect rates - TAYLOR BRODIE, KATHERINE CYMBALAK, NICK D'ARCY, MICHAEL HUTCHESON, TESSA LANE, SIAN LEY, LIDIA NARDI, ALEX & THOMAS RAMSAY, BEN & JUSTIN TRABINGER and PETER WALTON. Special congratulations to BEN GRADY who swam a great PB to achieve a new National time in his 100 Free and MARTIN POLLOCK who also achieved a National time in his 200 Breaststroke. JOSH WOOD produced a last minute State time in his 200 Fly swim to take our State qualifiers to 47 (see above). Congratulations Josh! Also picking up new State times were MATT D'ARCY (200 IM, 200 Free, 100 Back), NATASHA COSSETTO (200 Breast), TRENT PATTENDEN (50 Free & 100 Fly), SEB TAZREITER (100 Fly, 200 Back, 200 Free) and STEWART THOMPSON (200 Back). There were plenty of Gold Medals as well with these being won by DYLAN APPELQVIST (5), NATASHA COSSETTO (3), HAYDN MARSH (3), ADAM BINGHAM (2), ELLE PATTENDEN (2), BEN TRABINGER (2), TIM CAMERON, REBECCA GILLESPIE, JESS HANCOCK, MICHAELA LEONARD, BEN PATTENDEN, MARTIN POLLOCK, MEAGAN RAMSAY and JOSH WOOD. Well done everyone! Results for Boys, Girls and TVSC Swimmers can be found at our Local Results page.

For those of you who didn't hear all the awards presented at the Narooma Barbeque, we have attached the list.
Another Fun Weekend in Narooma
9 December 2003
Sixty six Vikings swimmers and associated family members and coaching staff journeyed to the South Coast town of Narooma last weekend. Although the weather was not entirely favourable, it did improve as the weekend went on any many managed to get in a trip to the beach. Thank goodness for our new Vikings fleecy tops which came in very handy, especially during evening festivities. The weekend was a howling success for all involved and a great time was had by all. With early wake up calls thanks to the sea gulls, we were up and at the pool bright and early each morning. This enthusiasm carried on during the day with a great deal of cheering and sportsmanship led by Chief Cheerleaders ASHLEIGH MANSELL and AMY BROWN (see picture). There were still plenty of PBs, especially amongst our younger members - it seems that most of the older kids were too busy having a good time to overexert themselves in the pool! NICK D'ARCY achieved his very first State qualifying time in 100m Breast and BEN TRABINGER picked up a new State time in his 200 IM. Well done guys! There were oodles of medals won by the Vikings swimmers as well as several meet records broken. ADAM BINGHAM won all eight of his events and broke three meet records and HAYDN MARSH won seven events and broke three meet records. The list of others to win Gold Medals is very impressive - NICK D'ARCY (5), BEN PATTENDEN (5), MICHAELA LEONARD (5), DAVID POLLOCK (5), KRYSTEN MANSELL (3), BEN TRABINGER (3), LACHLAN TRABINGER (3), STEPHANIE COSSETTO (3), LACHLAN GRIMM (3), ELLE PATTENDEN (2), MEAGAN RAMSAY (3), MARTIN POLLOCK (2), JOSH WOOD (2), THOMAS RAMSAY (2), JUSTIN TRABINGER (2), LYNDSAY SAYWELL (2), NATASHA COSSETTO, BEN GRADY, MATT POLLOCK, JONNO ROUSSEAU and MICHAELLA TAZREITER. Others to win medals included DEREK BAYLEY (and lots of PBs!), KATE BINGHAM, TIM CAMERON, MATT D'ARCY, NIC DUNCAN, KYLIE FITZSIMMONS, STEPH GARLICK, LAURA & PAT HUDSON, MICHAEL HUTCHESON, RYAN LEONARD, TRENT PATTENDEN, DANIEL & REBECCA PHILIPPA, BIANCA PITTS, MELANIE QUIGGIN, ALEX RAMSAY and NATALIE SMITH. There must have been a lot of heavy cars coming up the mountain on the way home! We would like to pass on our thanks to the Narooma meet organising committee for the well run meet and the people of Narooma in general for their great friendly hospitality. To see some snaps of our great weekend, please click here.
A Couple of Reminders
10 December 2003
This being such a busy time of year, we would like to remind our members of a couple of very important events and deadlines coming up during the next few days. Don't forget that this Friday, 12 December, is the last Club Night for 2003. Electronic entries should be with the Club Night Co-ordinator by 9.00 pm this Thursday. You can find the Program of Events here. Also, we have our Annual Christmas Party on Sunday, 14 December from 12 noon at Kambah Venture Playground. It's not too late for yor to register your expression of interest - just e-mail Sylvia Mansell with your family details. Lastly, entries for the NSW Age Championships (13-18 yrs + Open) close this Friday, 12 December (please note that the closing date is NOT 19 December as previously advertised).
65 Vikings Swimmers to Rock the South Coast
2 December 2003
Approximately 65 TVSC swimmers, accompanied by coaches and families, will be travelling to the lovely little South Coast town of Narooma this weekend to attend the Annual Narooma 2-Day Meet. There'll be lots of fun, surf, fishing, socialising with friends and, of course, competition, during the weekend. Good luck to all attending and, most importantly, enjoy yourselves!
4 Viking Swimmers Bring Home Medals from NSW Distance Championships
1 December 2003
Four members of the Tuggeranong Vikings Swim Club won medals at the NSW Distance Championships held at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on 29-30 November. ADAM BINGHAM won Gold in the 15 years 1500 Free, TRENT PATTENDEN took out the Silver in the 13 years 1500 Free, MELANIE QUIGGIN won a Bronze medal also in the 13 yrs 1500m Freestyle and ALANA FORSTER won a Bronze medal in the 17-18 years 400 IM. With only a team of six attending the Championships, this was a brilliant result for the Vikings. Well done team! Full results from the Championships can be found here.
Reminder - TVSC Christmas Party
27 November 2003
Don't forget that the TVSC Christmas Party will be held on Sunday, 14 December at the Kambah Venture Playground. TVSC will be footing the bill for a sausage sizzle for our swimmers and their families. Each swimmer will also receive a lolly bag (Sssshhhh, Don't tell Chris!). There will also be Harley rides for those adventurous spirits for a small fee of $5 each (all proceeds to TVSC). The festivities will commence at 12 noon. To assist with catering, if you plan to attend please complete the attached form and place in the Other Correspondence Box at the pool or e-mail Sylvia Mansell directly by Saturday 29 November. Don't miss it!!
ACT Summer Results
23 November 2003
The Vikings again had some impressive results at the ACT Summer Meet on 22-23 November. BEN GRADY led the way with 6 PBs from 7 swims and a new National qualifying time in 200 Fly. BEN TRABINGER achieved a 100 percent PB rate and picked up a new State time in 200 Back and a new Country time in 100 Free. The two MICHAELAs (TAZREITER and LEONARD) both achieved perfect PB rates and their very first State qualifying times in 100 Fly and Breast respectively. Several others achieved perfect PB rates or almost - DYLAN APPLEQVIST, TORI BOUNDY, NICK D'ARCY, STEPH GARLICK, LAURA HUDSON, TESSA LANE, BETHANY MILES, BEN & ELLE PATTENDEN, DAVID & MARTIN POLLOCK and LOUISE SCHMIDTCHEN. New State qualifying times were also picked up by DYLAN APPLYQVIST (100 and 200 Free and Fly), NATASHA COSSETTO (200 IM & 200 Back), JESS HANCOCK (50 Free), DAVID POLLOCK (100 & 200 Back), MARTIN POLLOCK (50 & 100 Free and 100 Back) and MATT POLLOCK (200 Back). DYLAN APPLEQVIST (200 IM), STEPHANIE COSSETTO (100 Back), ELLE PATTENDEN (200 IM) and DANIEL PHILIPPA (100 Breast - his first QT!) all swam new Country qualifying times. Whew! Well done Vikings. Results for Boys, Girls and TVSC Swimmers can be found at our Local Meet Results page. Coming up with a good result also were our catering ladies (led by General Jenny Bowen-Smith) who fed and watered the hungry hordes on the Sunday of the meet. Many thanks to all those who helped on the day and who made culinary contributions.
Update on ACT Distance Championships
20 November 2003
The ACT Open Male and Female Distance Champion will be decided from 1500m and 800m Freestyle events swum at the Canberra Christmas Classic (19-21 December) and ACT Open/Development Championships (27-29 February). To be eligible to claim the title, the girls will need to swim the 1500 at Christmas Classic and the boys the 800 at this meet. The reverse will apply for ACT Open/Development. Canberra Swim Club has kindly extended the closing date for these events only to 12 December. 1500 and 800 times will need to be entered at Christmas Classic but for the ACT Open/Dev. Championships, entrants can enter either their Open qualifying 800 or 1500 times or their 400m times if they have qualified with those times for their age at the ACT Age Championships.
TVSC Swimmers Produce Great Results at Ginninderra Development Meet
16 November 2003
A valiant band of ten swimmers travelled to Kaleen for the Ginninderra Development Meet. All members of the team came home with at least one ribbon. DEREK BAYLEY produced five firsts from five races and PBed four of them. NICHOLAS ALCAZAR-STEVENS also won all four of his races, scoring 3 from 4 PBs. DANIEL PHILIPPA (3), NICK PHILIPPA, ELIZABETH PHILIPPA, MAX and CATALINA ALCAZAR-STEVENS and TARALEE RUSSELL (2) also achieved first placings, with LOUISE SCHMIDTEN and DANIELSTEEMSON picking up 4 seconds from 4 swims and a second and a third respectively. Well done guys! Results for Boys, Girls and TVSC Swimmers can be found at our Local Meets page.
