Last Competition for 2004

13 December 2004

Seventy three Vikings swimmers rounded off the year at last weekend’s annual Canberra Christmas Classic meet at the AIS.  There were a lot of tired swimmers – it’s been a long year with lots of changes for TVSC – but there were still some impressive results.  JEREMY HUNTLEY had some brilliant Backstroke swims, including his first Australian Open time in the 50 and just missing the same in his 100 and 200.  Congratulations also to RACHEL DE FEYTER who qualified for her first State Championships with a mighty swim in her 100 Free.  Others to pick up State times were JUSTIN TRABINGER (200 IM), SEB TAZREITER (100 Fly), MICHAELA LEONARD (100 Back) and SRECKO ANTOSKI (200 Breast).  100 percent PBs were swum by RACHEL DE FEYTER (on fire!), ASHLEIGH MANSELL (love the Breaststroke!), CHEYENNE PETERS (nice IM!), LIZZY PHILIPPA (nice ice-cream?), DANIEL STEEMSON (great 50 Fly!) and LAURA WOOD (nice PB in 100 Breast!).  Well done team.  Looking forward to more of the same in 2005!  You can find results for Boys, Girls and TVSC Swimmers at our Local Meets page.

Medals, National Times and Lots of Finalist Ribbons at NSW Age Distance Championships

29 November 2004

Our Vikings Team performed brilliantly at the NSW Age Distance Championships on the weekend.  NATASHA COSSETTO, true to recent form, pulled out a brilliant swim in her 400 IM event to win a Silver Medal and achieve a National qualifying time.  This followed hot on Tash’s great swim the previous day to claim a Finalist ribbon in the 800 Free, the first time she had swum this event.  ADAM BINGHAM also showed improvement in his 1500 swim, winning a Silver medal and qualifying for both the National Age and Australian Open Championships as well as unofficially breaking the ACT Resident’s Open Record.  Others to achieve Finalist ribbons were JESS HANCOCK (7TH, 800 Free), KRYSTEN MANSELL (10th, 800 Free), MARTIN POLLOCK (8th, 1500 Free, 7th 400 IM), MATT D’ARCY (9th 1500 Free), DAVID POLLOCK (8th, 400 IM), MATT POLLOCK (7th, 400 IM).  Mighty Meet Vikings!  Looks like all that hard work at training is paying off!  Full Results can be found at our State & National Results page.

Request from the Head Coach re LC Entries

26 September 2004

The Summer Long Course season is almost upon us with entries for some upcoming meets closing on  1 October.  Head Coach, Dan Ronan, has requested that all swimmers (and parents if applicable) please use current season times when compiling entries for meets.  This means that, for all meets after 1 October, LONG COURSE ONLY times will be used.  Our Race Secretary will, from 1 October, be using the long course data base for all entries.  This will apply for all meets (except for the Summer Development/Intermediate series, where, if your BEST TIME since 1 October 2003 is faster than the Break time for the Series, entries will be rejected).  The only exception applies to those events which have qualifying times at general and State and Country level meets – in this case, if a short course converted time allows the swimmer to compete where their long course time would not have, then that time may be used.  Don’t forget that for most meets (apart from Championship events) it is unnecessary to add your time to the entry card as the Team Manager program used by our Race Secretary will do this automatically from our data base.
