Cabins are going fast!  Luckily, we anticipated this and ensured that we reserved  enough for our members, so there are still a few left. Bookings for cabins will close on Friday, 3 November.  So, if you have been putting off making a booking, don't waste too much time, or you will miss out.  You can find out all the necessary information to tempt you to take the plunge and participate in one of our legendary weekends in the lovely little coastal town of Narooma by clicking here.  The meet program (which now closes on Wednesday, 1 November) can be found here.  For further information please contact Beth Bingham via e-mail or on phone 6292 1135 (ah) or mobile (0416 048 505).

Early Morning Training Times for Junior Squad Swimmers

17 October 2006

Another important decision made by our Committee and Coaches is that training for our Junior Squad members will now commence at 6:00 am, rather than 5.30 am.  We will make allowances for those swimmers who have siblings who commence training at 5.30.  These swimmers will be welcome to train at 5.30 in an effort to save Mum and Dad playing tag team back and forth to the pool twice within half an hour.  But for those swimmers who have no such siblings and wish to train in the mornings, the official start time will now be 6.00 am.  Please note that the training days have not changed, just the commencement time.

Many Thanks to those Who Helped to Make Our Meet a Success

27 August 2006

TVSC would like to pass on to our members the club's appreciation for all their help rendered in putting together and running our Development/Intermediate Meet.  We would like to thank those who made donations and, in particular, those who gave up their time to help us make the meet the success it was.  Also deserving of thanks are those members of the ACT swimming community who also came along and assisted us in making the meet a resounding success. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Vikings Development/Intermediate Meet a Hugh Success

27 August 2006

TVSC held its annual Development/Intermediate Meet at the TLLC this weekend.  As it was the last meet of the ACT Winter Development Series, all swimmers were keen to swim PBs with some of the younger swimmers also going for last minute state times.  The TVSC team of almost 50 did particularly well.  Our PB rate was high and some individual swimmers excelled in this area with 100 percent PBs being swum by LUKE ABBERTON, DEREK BAYLEY, DANIELLE GRIMM, and ASHLEIGH STREATFIELD.  Several swimmers almost made this rating - TORI BOUNDY (4/5), CHELSEA BRODIE (3/4), JOSH BROWN (3/4), JACOB COSSETTO (3/4), ANDREA GOSLING (4/5), RYAN HORE (4/5), ALEX JARVIS (4/5), MELANIE LE COUTEUR (4/5), LIZZY PHILIPPA (2/3) and AIMEE VAN GERWEN (3/4). Our swimmers won lots of ribbons and many tried new events for the first time and discovered that they weren't as daunting as they thought!  Overall, a resounding success.  Results for Boys, Girls and TVSC Swimmers can be found at our Local Results page.

Vikings Swimmers Do Well in Shepparton

22 August 2006

TVSC members of the ACT Junior Squad performed brilliantly at the Victorian SC Country Championships held in Shepparton last weekend.  There were lots of PBs and a good time was had by all.  Congratulations to CHELSEA BRODIE, who won a gold medal in the 11 yrs 50 Butterfly and JUSTIN TRABINGER, who came home with a bronze medal for his 50 Backstroke. Well done Vikings!  Full results from the meet can be found here or at our State & National Results page.

TVSC Members - We Need Your Assistance to Make Our Meet a Success

20 August 2006

TVSC's annual Development/Intermediate Meet will be held next Sunday at the Tuggeranong Lakeside Leisure Centre.  We would like to remind our parents in particular that we need their assistance in providing catering for the meet.  This involves bringing along to the meet various types of food suitable for morning and afternoon tea and lunch.  Can you please contact Helen Philippa via e-mail or phone (6291291) if you can assist.  We also need a handful of parents who can assist Helen on the day with the preparation and handing out of the food so don't forget to let her know that you are available for that chore as well.

Another important aspect of the meet is the raffle which host clubs tend to run.  On this occasion we will be running a "Scratchie Tree" raffle.  For this we need donations of one scratchie per family.  These usually only cost a couple of dollars and can add up to a valuable prize for the winner - especially if they scratch a substantial winner! For this we need donations of one scratchie per family. These usually only cost a couple of dollars and can add up to a valuable prize for the winner - especially if they scratch a substantial winner! We would be very grateful to receive your donation - could you please place them in an envelope in the top box at the pool addressed to Helen Philippa.

Clarification - Venue for TVSC Development/Inter. Meet, 27 August

9 August 2006

TVSC would like to confirm that the venue for its Development/Intermediate Meet will remain the Tuggeranong Lakeside Leisure Centre as previously advertised by TVSC.  It seems that some other published material had the venue for this meet listed as the AIS.  This is incorrect.

TVSC Development Swimmers Excel at Telopea Meet

9 August 2006

The Vikings team which participated in the recent Telopea Development/Intermediate Meet at TLLC pulled out some great performances to take our overall PB rate to approx. 65 percent.  Well done team!  There were some huge improvements and a large number of medals won by the Vikings.  Those who scored 100 percent rates included: TORI BOUNDY, TAMIKA BRINKLEY and  CHEYENNE PETERS,  There were several overs who were close to this mark - AMY BROWN (3/4), AMY HOLDER (3/4), ALYSSA HUGHES (4/5), SIAN LEY (3/4), TEON LOLESIO (3/4), JACK and REGAN MORRIS (both 4/5), MIKHALA PETERS (4/5), NICK and SHAUN PHILIPPA (both 4/5), ALEX and THOMAS RAMSAY (both 4/5), DANIEL STEEMSON (4/5) and GERI WADDLETON (3/4).  The PHILIPPA family did exceptionally well, swimming 11 PBs  (just under an average of 3 each!) - and older siblings Danny and Lizzie weren't even there!  Well done Vikings!  Don't forget that entries for the TVSC Development/Intermediate Meet to be held on 27 August close this Friday.  This is your last chance to score Winter Series points and to qualify for the upcoming ACT Winter Championships - new qualifiers will be able to submit entries for their qualifying event at the completion of the meet (but, remember, you must do this prior to leaving the pool - later entries will not be accepted).  Results for Boys, Girls and TVSC Swimmers can be found at our Local Meets page.

New Senior Coach

30 July 2006

We would like to welcome Paul Bruce who will be doing some coaching work with our senior squads, initially until the State Championships in mid-September.  Not many people would remember that Paul was Vikings' foundation Head Coach, taking the helm from 1991-1996.  Paul is a Silver Licence coach with a wealth of experience in both Australia and Canada.  If you would like to find out some more about Paul please click here.  Paul commences on pool deck on Monday morning, 31 July.

TVSC Development/Intermediate Meet,

27 August

30 July 2006

TVSC will be holding its annual Development/Intermediate Meet on 27 August at TLLC.  The Program of Events can be found here.  As with all meets, such events do not happen on their own and we are now calling for helpers.  We will need assistance with setting up prior to and cleaning up after the meet as well as officials on the day.  You don't need to be experienced to do such things as marshall, time keep, assist with awards, cater, etc. so please don't be shy and come forward and offer your help.  If you can spare a couple of hours to assist us, please contact Meet Director, Rod Hore, via e-mail.  Rod will be glad to hear from you and will be relieved to have another chore crossed off his list. One of the most important tasks on meet days is the feeding of all the volunteer officials who come along to assist us.  Helen Philippa is charged with this responsibility this year, so if you can contribute your time on the day and/or can provide us with foodstuffs such as luncheon foods, sandwich fillings, cakes, muffins, cookies, savouries such as crackers, crudites and dips, etc. please don't hesitate to contact Helen, again via e-mail.  And, most important, don't forget your entries in - entries close on 11 August.

TVSC Swimmer Wins State Junior Triathlon Championships

6 March 2006

Vikings swimmer, Brayden Clews-Proctor won the 10-11 years  age division of the NSW Junior Triathlon Championships on Sunday the 26th of February in Mudgee NSW.  Brayden completed the 100m swim 6k bike and 1k run in 19:10 seconds to win by a convincing margin.  Brayden exited the water in 3rd and found himself in 4th out onto the bike where his cycling strength came to the fore as he soon caught the leaders at the 2km mark and extended his lead to 20 seconds leading into the run where he cruised to victory.  Brayden’s win in this race was even more impressive as this was only his 3rd triathlon this season.  Congratulations Brayden!

Please Note - New Security for Swimming Equipment & Clearance of Cages

26 February 2006

TVSC has installed new hooks to provide secure storage for net bags for all swimmers (2 to a hook) in the container outside the back door of the pool. The container will only be accessible just before each squad trains and immediately afterwards. Swimmers will only be allowed to retrieve and return their own gear and no-one will be able to "borrow" anyone else's equipment. No access will be granted to the container during the training session.

In line with the club's squad policy, each swimmer must have suitable goggles, fins, kick boards, drink bottles and pool buoys at the beginning of every training session.  Please understand the importance of handling and looking after all this expensive equipment with care. Performance Squad members should also have hand paddles and may be required to purchase other equipment, e.g. central snorkels, tempo timers (Finis/Lane 4).

The current cages will be cleared and removed by Wednesday, 1 March.  Please remove your equipment from them between now and then and store them in a clearly marked net bag in the container.

Australia Day Development/Intermediate Meet

28 January 2006

Forty-Nine Vikings swimmers attended the Australian Day Development/ Intermediate Meet held at the AIS.  It was great to see so many swimmers (and parents) in attendance.  Results were very impressive, with a high PB rate scored by our enthusiastic swimmers (see some of the girls above - thanks Kassia for the photo).  Well done to all!  Special mention should go to our 100 percent wonders - AMY BROWN, RACHEL DE FEYTER, MAIGAN FOWLER, CHELSEA AND TEON LOLESIO, THOMAS RAMSAY and AIMEE AND EMILY VAN GERWAN.  Many swimmers qualified (some for the first time) for the ACT Championships to be held on 17-19 March - don't forget that entries close for this meet on 27 February.  Many thanks to those parents who so eagerly offered their assistance with the timekeeping at the meet.  With more meets coming up over the next few months, we'd be grateful if you could keep it up!  Results for Boys, Girls and TVSC Swimmers can be found at our Local Results page.

Coach/Parent Communication

28 January 2006

We would like to remind parents/guardians of TVSC swimmers that if they have any issues which they would like to discuss with our coaches, including their child’s progress, they are welcome to do so, but at the completion of club training. Please do not approach our coaches on pool deck during training time to initiate such a discussion. It is best to make an appointment to speak to your child’s coach to avoid conflict with their training time. In the rare case that you are not happy with the coach’s response or handling of the situation you are welcome to contact the TVSC Committee, either in writing (or e-mail) or by attending a committee meeting (held at 7.30 pm at the Lanyon Rugby Club on the third Monday of the month). The committee guarantees to hear your case in a fair and objective manner.

We would also like to remind our members that all of the TVSC committee are volunteers who serve on the committee to assist all Vikings swimmers and who get no personal benefit for their time and effort other than the satisfaction of knowing that they are contributing to the successful running of our club. Remember that, without these people, our club would not exist. Our Annual General Meeting is held in June each year and all members are encouraged to nominate for committee membership. We also have casual vacancies throughout the year where we call for people to nominate for committee membership.  Your contribution would be gratefully received.
