Members - We Need Your Help to Cater for Volunteers at our Development/Intermediate Meet
29 August 2007
TVSC is holding its annual Development/Intermediate Meet at TLLC on Sunday, 9 September. To repay all those wonderful volunteers who come along to such meets and help out with officiating, we are required to feed and water those helpers. Therefore, we are asking the assistance of our members to donate foods suitable for morning and afternoon tea and a cut lunch. Such things as cakes, slices, cookies, crackers and cheese, meats, salad vegies, fruit, etc. are required to enable us to "put on a good spread". You do not need to be attending the meet to contribute - you can make arrangements to drop off donations to JOANNE ABBERTON, who has taken on the job of co-ordinating the catering at the meet. If you can help out (and we need people on the day as well, to help dish out the food) please contact Jo via e-mail by clicking here.
Vikings Receive Government Grant of Almost $2,000
30 August 2007
The Vikings committee
has just received confirmation of a grant from the
Department of Families, Community Services and
Indigenous Affairs (FaCSIA). This is the first year
that TVSC has applied for the sports grant which
will be used to purchase new exercise mats, a first
aid kit plus a laminator. Parents and swimmers alike
will be glad to see the old and mouldy exercise mats
thrown out and replaced by 30 new waterproof mats.
It may make those push-ups and crunches just a
little easier!
FaCSIA has advised that funds will be deposited
within 6 weeks, and the purchases will be made as
soon as possible after that.
Congratulations to Vikings Very Own State Silver Medallist 24 August 2007
|
13 year old ASHLEIGH STREATFIELD must be one of the ACT's biggest improvers over the last 12 months. After winning a Silver medals at Winter Country in her best event, the 100m Breaststroke, Ash has stepped up to now be a contender at State level. Ashleigh not only made the podium for her Silver medal in 13 yrs 200m Breaststroke (with a 3 second PB), but also brought home finalist ribbons in two other events, 100m Breaststroke and 200 IM. This gave her a 100 percent PB and Finalist rate. Another who shone at the recent NSW Age Championships is 16 yr old DANIEL PHILIPPA who picked up Finalist ribbons in his two pet events, 100 & 200m Breaststroke (the latter in a 2 sec. PB!). Others to earn Finalist placings were CHRISTIE JONES (15 yrs 100 & 200m Breaststroke) and LUKE ABBERTON (13 yrs 200 Fly). Well done Vikings!! |

Following on the Vikings swimmers awesome results at the first day's competition of the Winter Country Championships, Day 2 proved to be just as successful. 10 yr old LACHLAN TRABINGER continued his hot form, bringing home a Gold Medal in his 100m Freestyle event. Lachlan finished the meet with 100 percent PBs. ASHLEIGH STREATFIELD also followed her Bronze Medal on Day 1, with a Silver in the 100m Breaststroke. NIALL JACOBSEN, who has been whittling away huge chunks off his PB in almost all events lately, kept this trend going at this meet, earning Finalist ribbons on Day 2 in 200 Free, 200 IM and 400 IM. ELLE & TRENT PATTENDEN also proved very successful, both gaining 100 percent in all their events swum as did CAMILLE HERSTIK and DANIEL PHILIPPA. TAMIKA BRINKLEY and OLIVIA ALARCON, at their first rep. meet, also swam PBs in their events. Others to gain Finalist placings included LUKE ABBERTSON (13 yrs 100 Fly. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!
29 May 2007
On behalf of all members of the Tuggeranong Vikings Swim Club, we would like to pass on our gratitude to all volunteers who assisted us at our meet last weekend. Thank you especially to those officials from Swimming ACT who give up so many of their weekends to support and promote our sport. Many thanks also to those TVSC volunteers who assisted us in the running of our main meet. In particular, we should mention our Meet Directors, ROD HORE and TIM ABBERTON who steered the ship to another successful voyage. SHARON STREATFIELD, who was in charge of the catering team, should also be given special thanks on her sterling efforts to keep us all well fed and watered on the weekend as well as those parents who provided food stuffs to the caterers. Every effort was greatly appreciated by the meet organisers.
Great Results for Vikings Swimmers at their Annual Qualifying Meet
29 May 2007
The Vikings swimmers performed brilliantly at our recent qualifying meet. A high PB rate brought a smile to coach David’s face as many of our swimmers competed at this level for the first time. Of note were TAMIKA BRINKLEY, MELANIE LE COUTEUR, THOMAS RAMSAY, JUSTIN TRABINGER, LACHLAN TRABINGER, AIMEE VAN GERWIN and EMILY VAN GERWIN, who swam PBs in all of their events. Coming close to this feat were COURTNEY BACON, SAM BANHAM, RYAN HORE, EMMA KELLY, GORDON LE COUTEUR, ERIN SCIORTINO, PRISCILLA SYMMES and GERI WADDLETON. We also should mention ASHLEIGH STREATFIELD who had an awesome meet, swimming some huge PBs amongst her 9 from 11 swims. There were also lots of medals won by our swimmers. To find out how the team fared, please click here for the TVSC Results. You can also check out the full results for Boys and Girls. Team spirit was high and this showed through in the results.
