Members - We Need Your Help to Cater for Volunteers at our Development/Intermediate Meet

29 August 2007

TVSC is holding its annual Development/Intermediate Meet at TLLC on Sunday, 9 September.  To repay all those wonderful volunteers who come along to such meets and help out with officiating, we are required to feed and water those helpers.  Therefore, we are asking the assistance of our members to donate foods suitable for morning and afternoon tea and a cut lunch.  Such things as cakes, slices, cookies, crackers and cheese, meats, salad vegies, fruit, etc. are required to enable us to "put on a good spread".  You do not need to be attending the meet to contribute - you can make arrangements to drop off donations to JOANNE ABBERTON, who has taken on the job of co-ordinating the catering at the meet. If you can help out (and we need people on the day as well, to help dish out the food) please contact Jo via e-mail by clicking here.

Vikings Receive Government Grant of Almost $2,000

30 August 2007

The Vikings committee has just received confirmation of a grant from the Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaCSIA). This is the first year that TVSC has applied for the sports grant which will be used to purchase new exercise mats, a first aid kit plus a laminator. Parents and swimmers alike will be glad to see the old and mouldy exercise mats thrown out and replaced by 30 new waterproof mats.  It may make those push-ups and crunches just a little easier!

FaCSIA has advised that funds will be deposited within 6 weeks, and the purchases will be made as soon as possible after that.

Congratulations to Vikings Very Own State Silver Medallist  24 August 2007

13 year old ASHLEIGH STREATFIELD must be one of the ACT's biggest improvers over the last 12 months.  After winning a Silver medals at Winter Country in her best event, the 100m Breaststroke, Ash has stepped up to now be a contender at State level.  Ashleigh not only made the podium for her Silver medal in 13 yrs 200m Breaststroke (with a 3 second PB), but also brought home finalist ribbons in two other events, 100m Breaststroke and 200 IM.  This gave her a 100 percent PB and Finalist rate.  Another who shone at the recent NSW Age Championships is 16 yr old DANIEL PHILIPPA who picked up Finalist ribbons in his two pet events, 100 & 200m Breaststroke (the latter in a 2 sec. PB!).  Others to earn Finalist placings were CHRISTIE JONES (15 yrs 100 & 200m Breaststroke) and LUKE ABBERTON (13 yrs 200 Fly).  Well done Vikings!!
