Welcome to Paul Bruce
The Tuggeranong Vikings Swim Club wishes to announce that it has acquired the services of Paul Bruce to coach our senior squad.
Paul is no stranger to Tuggeranong Vikings Swim Club, having been its foundation Head Coach from 1991 to 1996. During this time TVSC grew from a dozen or so members to a membership of 100 swimmers and started to make impressions at local, Country and State meets. It was under Paul that our first State Gold medallist, Andrew Tran, developed into a star and later went on to win three Gold medals at Winter State in 1996.
Paul temporarily hung up his coach’s whistle in 1996 because of work commitments which involved international travel. From 1997 to 1999 Paul did some relief coaching with Ginninderra Swim Club, assisting Lynn Fowlie. In 1999 his love of coaching and the encouragement of Lynn and Jim Fowlie tempted him to Canada for three years. During this time Paul was Head Coach with the Red Deer Catalina Swim Club in Alberta Canada.
In mid 2002 Paul returned to Australia and took up a coaching position with the Wagga Wagga Swim Club. Under Paul, Wagga went from strength to strength and became a dominant force in the surrounding Riverina district. During 2004 Paul commenced work as Sports Development Officer with Swimming Australia in Canberra. This position has given Paul the opportunity to mix it with Australia’s best coaches and the experience has been invaluable in developing his coaching program.
Whilst Paul will continue to work with Swimming Australia, his desire to return to coaching has been too strong and he takes up the position of Senior Coach at Vikings with great enthusiasm and promise for the future. He will commence working with our Senior Squad on Monday morning, 31 July.
Welcome Paul!
